Fashion – PAUSEstudio Fashion Film

Since I only just managed to get around to sharing some images of my collection I thought now would be a pretty apt time to also share a Fashion Film created by PAUSEstudio to showcase my graduate collection.

While we were shooting the images for my lookbook the lovely Hazel did some behind the scenes filming to catch a little bit more garments that couldn’t necessarily be seen from a still image. I’m in love with the way this video has turned out and can’t wait to hopefully work with Hazel more in the future. Below is the final piece which was completely directed, filmed and edited by Hazel.

I really love Fashion Films, I think they’re a lot more fun than just images and so I want to experiment a lot more with them. I want to do a location shoot with my collection in the near future so I think I might also try and organise another film to be shot at the same time.

Challenge 2015 – What feels like the end is often the beginning

It’s been a really long time since I last posted – and a lot has happened!

I’ve finished my stint in education! You’re now reading the blog of Abagail Emily Vincent owner of a 2:1 Fashion with International Experience Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree.

Well that’s a slight lie because I don’t actually receive my degree until 16 November when I graduate, but still, I think it’s a pretty big achievement and I’m nothing less than over the moon. There were times throughout my four years at University that I really felt like giving up, sometimes it was really hard. Fashion is a very competitive business and even being a student you can really feel pressure from industry and making sure what you are is what they want. Fashion is opinion based and sometimes people just won’t understand your stories, inspirations and way of working; you really have to push to make it all crystal clear for people to read and digest. That aside it was also the best four years of my life. I’ve learnt so many new skills, met friends for life a long the way, and created some memories that will last forever.

I thought now would be an apt time to share some photos of what I’ve managed to achieve since the beginning of 2015. I will post more photos in due course but these images are just a few of my first photo shoot from my Graduate Collection. I’m a little late to the party with these as this shoot is from back in May, but I just got round to quickly editing some photos on my iPad.

These photos were taken by the gorgeous Meg Quick, my beautiful models were Lily Sadin and Aurelia Czech, and hair and makeup by  the super talented Navdeep Mahk (Magnifique Stylist).
Since finishing I’d be lying if I said everything has fallen into place. I’m still looking for a job, but that’s ok. I figure that most people who get a job straight out of uni are either 1. insanely lucky or 2. insanely talented and since I’m neither of the above I will have to settle for evenings in front of my laptop searching for new opportunities.  Never the less I am lucky enough to have a part time job at home to soften the blow of being in tens of thousands Pounds worth of debt and keep me busy at the same time. Essentially – I’ve finished my degree but really its just the beginning of the journey.

Challenge 2015 – Focus, Believe and Achieve

This time last year I remember my friends telling me that writing their dissertations was the most stressful thing ever and they didn’t think they’d make it to tomorrow. This time last year I was having the time of my life travelling Europe with my biggest problem being not knowing where to visit next. I really didn’t understand the fuss of it all, I mean final year couldn’t be that hard, could it?

The last four months working on my FMP have been the busiest four months of my life and 9-5 studio days with a maximum of 6 hours sleep a night are really starting to take their toll! If I’m not in the studio toiling my final collection I’m somewhere else doing work to prepare for more toiling, and if I’m not doing either of those I’m usually crying in a corner somewhere feeling guilty that I’m not doing any work at all!

This weekend I traveled back home for Easter, It’s been the most relaxing weekend probably since I was gallivanting off somewhere in Italy. By the time I got home last Thursday evening I was so exhausted from uni I was ready for some actual days off to let my hair down and have fun, and that’s exactly what I did.

Now that the weekend’s over I’m finding it really hard to get back into the swing of doing sketchbook work and preparing myself for the final stint of uni and actually making my collection. There’s a lot of work I’ve still got to do and I’m worried that I’ve been so bogged down with the amount of work there is that I’ve actually fallen behind!

I either need some sort of miracle to motivate me again or I need to stop getting distracted! Although I’d really love to believe in magic and miracles I’m very aware that they don’t exist, and if they did they certainly wouldn’t want to help me make it through my first world problem of finishing my degree; so I’m focusing on the latter.

I need to stop getting so easily distracted! I said at the start of the year in my first Challenge 2015 post that I want to cut down on social media because I really do waste so much time scrolling through Facebook and Instagram when I’m gaining absolutely nothing from it!

As a self confessed Instagram addict I’m holding an intervention.

I’m deleting Facebook, Snapchat and Instagram. Only temporarily, of course, until I’ve finished my degree. I waste so much time checking up on what everyone else is doing and posting photos of what I’m doing and it’s truly pointless and is only going to harm what I can achieve in the long run.

I’m not deactivating my accounts, just deleting the apps from my phone and iPad which should hopefully be enough to keep me from getting distracted by them.

Fingers crossed this will help me to crack on with what’s important and get the best degree possible!

What I Wore Today – Working Weekend

Much like all of my other weeks, this week has been super busy!

On Tuesday I got set an assignment to make the first toiles for my collection, within one week I have to make two dresses, a pair of trousers and a jacket. This doesn’t sound like a lot but when you take into consideration that I’ve been working two jobs four days a week it’s pretty overwhelming! I made the decision on Tuesday after being set all of this work that it was time to say goodbye to my job working at the Students Union.

With all the work I’ve been doing for Uni recently I’ve been feeling a bit exhausted so before I had work at New Look today I told myself I didn’t have to do anything, just relax a little. I let myself have a lie in, it was amazing! I’ve been rushing around so much that I’ve not really had much time to put into my appearance so as a luxury I actually did a full face of makeup this morning. It sounds really sad but I really enjoy doing my makeup. I probably shouldn’t, but I feel a lot more confident when I have really nice makeup on a day apposed to when I’m wearing none.

The dress that I wore today is one that I bought a few weeks back when I had my little splurge with my staff discount (oops!!) It’s really comfortable and I love how tailored it is. It is a bit short though and so not ideal for having to bend down and pick up hangers and clothes that have fallen on the floor. One of my favourite things when I’m working is someone coming up to me and asking where my outfit is from and being able to show it to them and then they buy it! I feel like I’m doing New Look proud!

I have work again tomorrow but I have next weekend off and I’m going home! I’m so excited to see my family and all of my lovely pets! I miss them all so much when I’m at Uni! If I’m organised enough I’ll hopefully try and write another post on my outfit tomorrow because after work I’m going to Banbury to meet one of my best friends for dinner! So excited and I want to look pretty for her! I think that treating yourself to little things like dinner out are important when you’re busy, you always need to remember to take the time to enjoy life!
