Travel 2014 – Lake Como

Lake Como.jpg

A couple of weekends ago I went on day trip to Lake Como, which is about an hour on the train north of Milan.

I really just wanted a little break from the city and a lot of friends had recommended it saying “you can’t come to Milan without going to the Lakes!” – This statement I now know to be true! It was such a beautiful weekend and the sun was shining so this was the perfect time to go.

The city of Como itself was pretty quiet, as were the lakes. I’m unsure as to whether this is because of the time of year, or maybe it’s always like that, but it was so peaceful compared to the mayhem that is Milan. There were very few boats on the water and also not as many people wandering around as I’d first expected.

Like Bergamo, the streets here are narrow and it feels a lot more Italian which is really nice! It makes a nice change to go somewhere quieter and there are loads of little restaurants that are open for lunch along the water front. It’s a very good chill out spot to soak up a little bit of the sunshine.

I didn’t realise quite how much I missed the sea until I eventually saw some real life water! It wasn’t quite the same as being back in Weymouth and sitting on the harbour, but there were boats and ducks so it was good enough for me!

We took the funicular to the top of the hill which gives you the best views of the lakes, but unfortunately it was a little bit hazy down below so the images I took didn’t turn out so well!

All in all it was a completely fun and relaxing day and I can’t wait to go back in May and perhaps convince my mum (who’s coming with me) that going on a boat would be a good idea.
